There is a big difference between our server, which services 10,000 people, and slashdot, which handles hundreds of thousands of hits per day. True, /. doesn't use java, which bloats cpu usage, and slashdot has a farm to handle surges, but come on, UD should be able to buy a big enough server and decent enough software to handle this type of situation.
