Why Do People Do This?

I got an e-mail today purporting to be from eBay and notifying me that my account was suspended. The e-mail included a link that pointed to a clone of eBay's signin page. After signing in (and you could make up any username/password combination), you could get to a page where you could begin the "unsuspension process" by entering a credit card number.

This is a very clever scam, much more realistic than many that I've seen. Please be on the alert for things like this. Don't click on links you receive in an e-mail; rather, go to the main page of the site that the e-mail claims to be from, and try to find a contact name or number that you can use to verify it. Don't get ripped off by these assholes ... if these schemes stop being successful maybe they'll stop trying to pull them.
