Recently at work I was going through some of the laser printers deciding which ones to keep and which ones to sell when I stumbled across many old HP LJ 4's. For those of you who don't know, LJ 4's are big hefty monster printers that seem to run forever. These aren't the kind of printers you'd want to put on your desk either; you would have no room for anything else. Anyhow, I was rather impressed with the number of pages these things had printed so far. Most of them had printed around 60,000 pages in their time (1993ish-present) There were a few outstanding printers though.

The best result that I got from 2 of the laserjet 4's was 180,000 pages. Yeah, one hundred and eighty-thousand pages. I was amazed. Damn, these things run forever. 11 years and still kicking.

I ran around telling everyone how cool that was and of course: no one cared. I was impressed with those until I found the HP LJ4 SI MX. This beast is about 4 times bigger than your standard LJ 4. The result from this big fat guy? 913,421. Yeah. Almost 1 million pages since August 1993. I was impressed. Just goes to show you what good craftsmanship will bring you. Way to go HP.
