Beware, ebay users: There is a scam currently operating involving high priced items and possibly even your account.

About 10 days ago, I returned from Hawaii to find an email in my inbox stating that someone had stolen my Ebay account and had sold a ton of merchandice through it (we're talking over 10 thousand dollars worth). The scam goes as follows: 1) The impotant fraud steals an account (like mine) 2) the fraud posts a laptop (usually, dude, a dell), cell phone, or digital camera for sale. 3) The bidding, of course, goes up on the item. 4) The fraud sells the item to the highest bidder, sending them an email first before the bidder could check out the true email address. 5) The fraud gets the bidder to pay via Western Union (no identity check, no escrow, easily falsified ups tracking, no recourse). 6) The fraud gets away clean by presenting false id, which the stupid kid at western Union takes without a second look. Do NOT fall for this. I would never suggest buying a laptop from ebay at all, but if you do get " a great deal", make sure you go through an escrow service (in fact, use a credit card or cod for anything over $100 at all). Also, ensure that the person you are talking to is using the registered email account on ebay.
