Housing scare.
OK everyone... relax for a second. The housing contract that has been so controversial seems to be in error, this according to the secretary at Residential Services. The problems arose while students were reading through our new housing contracts for next year. The contract says:
"For the health and safety of all students, laws and rules prohibit the possession or use of alcoholic beverages, drugs, and any item that may be construed as a weapon in University of Dayton student housing."
(Page 4 of 6, line 7, http://housing.udayton.edu/contracts/terms/index.php)
What I was told this was actually supposed to say was:
"For the health and safety of all students, laws and rules prohibit the ILLEGAL possession or use of alcoholic beverages, drugs, and any item that may be construed as a weapon in University of Dayton student housing."
I hope this helps everyone chill for a little bit.

We will investigate this further and see to it that the contract gets changed on the site.

To anyone who's interested....

The contract has been changed. It now states that "Students living in Junior/Senior Garden Apartments, Lawnview Apartments, and Houses, who are 21 or older, are permitted to have alcohol in their residence only in accordance with state law and University Policy."

Also, the bit that used to say that we couldn't sue the university under any circumstances any injury or damages, now states that we can't hold the university liable "except where injury is caused by the University's intensional acts and/or gross negligence." I guess this is a little bit better.

If I see any new problems or revisions to the contract, I'll let everyone know.

Another reason I am glad I am not going to be at UD next year........Even the scare of not being allowed to use or possess alcohol would probably kill me. Plus I dont think I could have made it through college without beer :-)
