Nora Who?
Oh yeah, I remember her. Nora Ryan. She was the one who got on her brother in "House of Yes", right? Well anyhow, for those of you who were wondering, this is a letter that Nora sent out today detailing her "goings on". Give it a read...

Hello- It's been quite a while since I've sent something out and if some of you are thinking, "How in the world did I get on Nora's list?" I've been combining other people's lists. But anyway for those of you who didn't know, I'm living in New York and working for a theatre organization called, The League of American Theatres and Producers. We are a trade organization for theatre owners and producers on Broadway and all over the US. Anyway, life in New York has been treating me pretty well. My lease on my apartment in Brooklyn is up in September and I'm thinking about moving in with some friends in Manhattan. Although my job isn't necessarily my dream job, it comes with some pretty nice perks. I've seen over 40 shows which for me is amazing and I got to see the filming of Saturday Night Live when Aston Kutcher and 50 cent were on. I also ended up at the Movie Premiere for The In-Laws. It was pretty neat to be sitting there watching a movie with the people who were in it. My company also co-produces the Tony Awards with were on this past Sunday. So for the last month, it's been complete craziness here. I honestly don't know how it was pulled off, because the whole process just seems wacky. Because of the Tonys, there were all sorts of parties and things leading up to them. We had an outdoor concert in one of the streets in Times Square last Wednesday which was so fun and I got to meet all sorts of people (lots of old 80s stars and Broadway people but for example... Mark Lyn Baker from "Perfect Strangers" aka Cousin Larry, Tom Cavanaugh from 'Ed', and Debbie Gibson) We had a community party last Thursday and invited all the Broadway casts. It was so fun and so cool (for me, being the theatre dork that I am) to be there. Debbie Gibson again was there and I think it's kind of funny that her and Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) are in Cabaret together....it's like a living "Where are they Now" kind of thing. The Tony's were absolutely amazing! The rehearsal was almost the best part because I got to meet Hugh Jackman and John Lithgow and Danny Glover was there and Barbara Walters, Alan Cumming, and all sorts of other people. My boss is very strange and rather ridiculous, but at the cocktail party he told me I had to go with him backstage for the pre-telecast portion. At first I was annoyed because I thought he just wanted me there to hold his water, but I ended up getting to walk down the red carpet and be backstage. Billy Joel won the first award for best orchestrations and he walked right by me and I was kind of stunned and just blurted out, "congratulations" and although I didn't get a verbal response, he gave me a sort of what's up, thanks head nod. Then I turn around and Benjamin Bratt is standing right next to me. I was quite surprised and kind of blurted out "Hey." And he said "Hi". and then I said, "How's it goin'?". He responded, "Fine thanks." Then I decided it was time for me to step back a little bit because I wasn't really capable of conversation at the moment. But it was really amazing and I couldn't believe I was backstage of Radio City Music Hall at the Tonys! 4 hours later, when they were done, there was the Tony Ball. And since all I had to eat that day was a bagel and some gin and tonics, I was anxious for some dinner even though it was 11:30. The party was fun but I was kind of tuckered out so I headed home. It was so great, I still can't believe I was there. Next week we have a big concert in Bryant Park. It's hosted by Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas and actually Jewel is going to sing some Broadway songs as well. I don't really know why Jewel wants to sing Broadway songs or why someone would want to see/hear Jewel sing some Broadway songs, but nonetheless...she'll be there. I guess the only other thing is that my last day at this job is August 29th. After that I figure since I'm in New York, I might as well give this acting thing a try. So, I'm going to quit my job and try to be an actor. I'm pretty excited right now, but I've got a lot to get organized. For those of you who are in Chicago or the Chicago area, I will be home from July 2nd to the 13th and I would love it if we could organize some type of Chicago reunion. I'd love to see some familiar faces!! Well this is really long. It's actually taken me 2 days to finish it! I hope you guys are all doing well and if you are ever in the mood for a little New York visit, let me know! I need a little more UD here in New York!! Hope all is well, Nora ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nora Ryan Assistant to the President League of American Theatres & Producers, Inc. 226 West 47th Street New York, N.Y., 10036 Work Phone: (212) 703-0203 E-Mail Address: NRyan@broadway.org
