V-Week Continues
If you didn't know already, the "Virginia" Monologues are going down this weekend in the Black Box theatre. From all I have heard, it will be a good time. Many people have put a lot of effort into this, so go and check it out . The following is a story by Katie Compton about how all of this came to be.

I almost forgot... Shake Your Rump will be broadcasting live from block box on Friday to start this show off right.

OUR LITTLE “V.F.T.” (Vagina Fairy Tale)
Once upon a time in a land not so far away there lived two charismatic, beautiful vaginas. These vaginas, these two women were on a mission. They wanted to change the world, or at least their small part in it. They wanted to fight for a cause they knew would fuel this change. Violence against women and girls must end. Kathleen Rafferty and Katie Compton became vagina warriors and this is how their journey began…
In the spring semester of last year, an idea was born, one that would serve to challenge, inform, and hopefully inspire the University of Dayton community. The Vagina Monologues must find its way to UD. With this idea in mind, the two vagina warriors got busy, making contacts, spreading the word, looking for support and seeking a space where this show, this wild collective voice could be seen and more importantly, heard. Not everyone listened right away but a few did and thus, the idea, this calling of sorts, took root and began to quickly grow.
Affirmation in the form of love is what really allowed this journey to not only progress, but also to take shape, develop strength, and instigate a revolution that screamed change. Kat and Katie were handed this love in the middle of a black box theatre on Georgetown’s campus, on December 6th 2002, at a V-day National Conference hosted by Eve Ensler and the V-day organizational staff. Over one hundred and sixty bright, powerful, and diverse women from across this country and beyond were there to share in this love and to be fed by the wisdom and spirits of an army of vagina warriors. Perhaps the most important comment that was made on this significant day was, “If all the women in the world had all the support they needed, this world would change.” If all the women in the world, let alone this campus were given a voice and an outlet in which to release it, this community would change.
Now, as this tale comes to its conclusion, take a look around, notice the women, the men, the people in this room, both onstage and off. They are all here for a reason. Despite their differences in religion, race, sex, or experiences everyone is here to listen. Our voices, this fight, and this love will be heard and shared by all of you, ironically in the very same space it first began, in the middle of a black box theatre. There will be no conclusion to this fairy tale, until there is a resolution. Violence against women and girls must end. This is only the beginning…
